Home for the Holidays

There’s nothing quite like being home for the holidays. Following traditions that have formed throughout the years, laughing with family, and eating lots and lots of cut out cookies. What are some of your favorite traditions? Mine is making my way to the 6 o’clock church service where I celebrate my favorite Christmas Eve tradition of standing in a circle, lighting our candles, singing “Silent Night.” I pick out my most Christmas-y outfit that must contain either red or green, sparkle, or bows. This year it’s all about the sparkle in my red, sparkly, trumpet sleeve sweater from Forever 21 paired with these cute little ornament earrings from a local shop in my hometown called By the Light of the Moon.

We follow the night by everyone coming over to the house to enjoy the beautifully decorated Christmas tree, jam out to some classic Christmas tunes, and eat all kinds of food (my fave being beer bread with dip).

I also love the togetherness of family during the holidays especially this Christmas when I have so much to be thankful for. A year ago today my dad was going through some of the toughest times of his life, and a year later he is a second time survivor of cancer and finally healthy again. That is a Christmas miracle itself. I am forever a daddy’s girl.

Be sure to take today and tomorrow for a little R&R and family time. Let’s pause on looking at our screens and posting little square pictures on Instagram and truly get lost in the magic of the holidays. Start thinking about those resolutions for the new year to become a better and happier you. Happy Holidays lovebugs!

The Holidays are Here

Is it too early to start dressing for Christmas?! For my followers who don’t know, Christmas is my favorite holiday of the year. I literally start all things Christmas on November 1st. I’ve already purchased all of my gift wrapping papers, ribbons, and bows; and I even purchased my first Christmas gift with many more to go. I went to the little coffee shop in town a few days ago, and their specials of the day menu reminded me that there are only 8 more Fridays until Christmas! I still don’t even know what to put on my Christmas List-what are you asking Santa for?!

During my Christmas shopping adventures, I will be wearing this super comfy, and warm plaid chunky sweater from Zara with cute little snaps on the wrist. I paired this look with a pair of basic black high-waist jeans, a black scarf, and black combat boots. This sweater was so adorable that I wanted it to be the stand out piece of my look.

Hello November

There is one thing I absolutely love about fall and that is the comeback of scarves. There is no better way to complete a fall look than a big, chunky scarf and a floppy hat. In this look, I’m wearing a gray sweater with oversized sleeves from Abercrombie & Fitch, a chunky striped scarf also from Abercrombie & Fitch, a tan floppy hat, G by Guess black combat boots, basic denim jeans, and my brown Michael Kors bag (which was the best Christmas gift last year from my best guy).

Typically, I HATE pairing black and brown together (just like I strongly dislike gray on gray and red with pink), but there are certain times when I will allow myself to get away with it. In this case, my handbag and hat play off the mustard/brown in the scarf, and I let the boots play off the color of my sweater so I’ll let it slide this time.

I’m also thinking this will be a super cute look for Thanksgiving dinner with the fam!

Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice

It’s officially fall, and I’ve officially created my Fall 2017 Bucket List!

  1. Go on a haunted hay ride
  2. Carve pumpkins
  3. Watch my favorite Halloween movies- Hocus Pocus, Halloweentown, Beetlejuice, and The Nightmare Before Christmas. (I just went to see the movie It, and it was crazy!)
  4. Celebrate Sunday Football w/ chicken wings, pizza, and a variety of chips and dips
  5. Make candy apples
  6. Tour a winery
  7. Go apple picking
  8. Learn to bake a pie
  9. Visit a brewery
  10. Update my fall wardrobe..

Usually by this time in New York I’m bundled up in my coziest sweaters and chunkiest scarves but this past weekend it reached almost 90 degrees! However this weather hasn’t stopped me from rummaging through some of new fall faves that I’m dying to wear. One of favorite go-to looks in the fall is a plaid shirt. Not only are they comfy, but they’re the easiest thing to grab out of the closet to throw on. But one reason that I’m extra in love with plaid flannels this year is because I’ve seen so many with fun embellishments! With October and some of my favorite Halloween festivities right around the corner, I chose this festive plaid button up with little beaded beetles near the collar from H&M, and it was only 12.99!

Pretty in Pink

One thing I can say about my style is that it’s very diverse. One day I will be wearing a rocker aesthetic in all black head-to-toe with studs, stars, and leather; other days I’ll be boho chic wearing earth tones with fringe and suede; and on rare occasions, you’ll see me looking super girly in pink with Curly Q hair.

One of the newest trends I’ve been seeing is not limiting pearl, glitter, and sequins embellishments for only the holiday season. I’ve seen so many bloggers and random people on the streets of NYC wearing these as their every day look in the summer and now into fall which inspired my current look! I played with the details on each piece pairing a pink ruffled top that I bought from Zara for only $12.99 (a super steal), light wash destroyed denim jeans with pearl embellishments, silver BCBG slides from TJ Maxx, and a floral crossbody handbag to complete the look.

Get Off My Back

Current Mood. Lately I’ve been searching for a change but fear the unknown and the opinions of others. It’s taken time, but I’ve realized I shouldn’t care what others think about me. One of my favorite quotes right now is “being happy is a very personal thing- and it really has nothing to do with anyone else.” It’s easy to forget this. It’s easy to forget that we are the author of our own story, and it’s important to remember to do what makes you happy. Leave the job you hate even if everyone thinks you are living the dream. Go home to regroup or move to a different city because life is not meant to be lived in one place. Spend time with your family, they are the most precious thing you have. Time waits for no one. Time has always been my biggest fear-not having enough of it, not using it wisely.

I’m proud of my accomplishments the past three years. I moved to a city by myself where I didn’t know a single soul. I lived in the middle of Manhattan paying $1,300 for a little cubicle they considered a bedroom. I designed shoes with Sarah Jessica freakin’ Parker! I’ve styled The Bachelor’s Caila Quinn. I’ve played dress up in $30,000 gowns. I’ve worked for the number one bridal store in the United States, and I’ve worked the corporate life with the much needed and appreciated Summer Fridays. I have nothing to prove to anyone but myself.

Tomorrow’s page is blank. I don’t know where my next step will take me, but I’m going to put on my most badass studded booties and wear my words on back. If anyone has anything to say about it, they can get off my back.

I’m 26 years old and still dream about being part of the Cheetah Girls. I remember when The Cheetah Girls movie first came out, I was already obsessed with Raven from That’s So Raven because she was so into fashion and always rocked a flower piece in her hair, and Adrienne who was part of one of my fave girl groups growing up called 3LW. One of my best friends and I even choreographed a dance routine in our school’s talent show to 3LW’s song “No More.” Anyways, ever since then I’ve always been a fan of leopard/cheetah print as a small accent to an outfit- a skirt, a headband, a bag, or a shoe. Here, I am wearing an asymmetrical leopard print skirt with a zip from H&M paired with a simple black tee, layered gold necklace, floppy hat, and booties. This is a great transitional outfit from summer to fall with its neutral colors. You can also easily throw on a black cardigan and a pair of black tights when the weather gets a little cool and breezy!
